Tree plantation program of Khulna City Corporation begins

The tree plantation program of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) began in the city on Saturday. KCC Mayor Mohammad Moniruzzaman inaugurated the program by planting a sapling at the Eidgah in the morning. The program will cover whole the corporation areas, concerned officers said.
Laying emphasis on tree plantation, the city mayor said, importance of tree and its impact on the human lives are well understood now-a-days and for that reason tree plantation gets topmost priority in all development works in the world. He mentioned the environmental degradation in the nature and urged all to be aware of this effect.
Bangladesh once was well-known as a green country. But now it has lost its glory. So, we should be more active and attentive in tree plantation to save the nature and the people, Moniruzzaman said.
On the occasion a discussion meeting was also held with KCC Councillor Md Yunus Ali Sarder in the chair, says a KCC press release.
Former MP Kazi Sekandar Ali Dalim, panel mayor Ruma Khatun, councilor Sheikh Shawkat Ali, Wahedur Rahman Dipu, Advocate Sheikh Zahangir Hussain Helal, Shahdat Mina, Hafizur Rahman Moni, Saiful Islam, Md Moniruzzaman, Rabeya Fahid Hasnahena, Shahida Begum. Anjira Khatun, Parvin Akhter, chief executive officer Md Abdul Hannan Bishwas, chief revenue officer Shahnewaz Talukder, executive magistrate Eradul Haque, former ward commissioner Abu Salek, social worker advocate Fazle Halim Liton and local elite, among others, spoke on the occasion.
Participants at the discussion meeting mentioned that the city air is getting polluted due to plying of the rising number of vehicles and in this circumstance tree plantation can save the environment and keep it habitable.
