One killed in road accident; dacoit beaten to death

A bus went out of its way and fell into a canal on Ramganj-Maijdee Road in Noakhali causing death of a passenger and injury to twenty others. A child passenger remains untraced till writing of this report.
The driver of the bus named Janani Express (Comilla Metro-04-205) lost control over the steering when a wheel of it punctured on the western side of the ‘Munshi Rasta’ at Parakot union under Chatkhil Upazila.
Body of a passenger was recovered and 4 injured persons were admitted to Noakhali General Hospital and 16 to Chatkhil Upazila Health Complex and other clinics. A child was missing in the accident.
The bus left Ramganj at around 4pm and faced the accident after crossing Dashgharia Bazar at around 5pm. An unknown person, aged about 30, died in the accident.
Among the seriously injured persons, Kanu Lal, Ranajit, Mohadev Saha and Habibullah were admitted to Noakhali General Hospital and their condition was stated serious.
Among the other injured persons, Krishna, Hasan, Rubina, Aroti, Mostafa, Mujibul, Shefali, Seeta and Raju were admitted to Chatkhil Ipazila Health Complex.
Getting the news of the accident a team of Chatkhil police led by OC Md Nasim Uddin reached the spot and helped in the rescue drive.
Another report says: An alleged dacoit died in a mass beating while “preparing to commit dacoity” at West Badalkot village under Chatkhil Upazila at the night of Friday. The dead was identified as Babul Hossain (48), son of Sultan Patwary of East Parakot village of the same upazila.
Police recovered the body and sent it to Noakhali General Hospital for post-mortem. Investigating into the incident is going on, thana source said.

Protest meeting, procession

Our Correspondent adds: Chatkhil Upaziala Jatiyatabadi Chatradal, led by its president Yusuf Nabi Babu, brought out a procession in protest against the attack on the motorcade of Begum Khaleda Zia in Dhaka.
They paraded the upazila roads and held a meeting in front of Chatkhil Press Club.

Opinion exchange meeting

Our Correspondent further states: An awareness raising opinion exchange meeting on checking child marriage was held at the initiative of Chatkhil Brac office at its training room recently.
Hindu marriage registrar Jayanta Kumar Chakravorty presided over the meeting.
It was addressed, among others, by Adv Md Zahangir Alam, Brac Legal Aid (FO) Moksed Ali, marriage registrar Mowlana Nesar Uddin, UP Member Shefali Begum, Taslima Begum, Marjahan Akter, Gopal Chandra Paul, Shahin Akter and Atik Ullah.
