Information Secretary of Bangladesh, Mortuza Ahmed, said that it was not possible for the Information Commission alone to implement the Right to Information (RTI), which is a constitutional right of the people.
He felt that it was important that the information officers of different ministries play a significant role in fulfilling their constitutional obligation.
The secretary was speaking at a day-long training course for information officers at the Press Information Department (PID) conference room.
Secretary of the Information Commission, Farhad Hossain, explained the finer points of the law.
The information secretary reminded the information officers that the implementation of RTI would work as a bridge between the people and government.
He also said that it would ensure transparency and accountability of the government.
A total of 60 information officers working in different ministries attended the workshop. A 10-minute video was shown at the beginning of the session explaining the RTI.
